"Mexican Food"

So y'all know the rumors about the north having terrible Mexican food? It is unquestionably, depressingly true...

Last night I went to see the new Twilight movie with my roommate's special lady friend and she suggested a Mexican restaurant before. I thought "how bad could it be?" and I was curious, so we went.

First of all they give us "chips and salsa", pretty standard right? So why did I insert quotation marks?

nacho chips that you would find at a baseball park ≠ corn tortilla chips freshly made
tomato paste with a couple veggies thrown in ≠ salsa
and thus... Boston "chips and salsa" ≠ any kind of conceivable chips and f***ing salsa!!!!
to make matters worse with the "chips and salsa" situation there was no tomatillo green sauce in sight (Jen didn't even know wtf I was talking about when I inquired about it)

So next I take a look at the menu...I usually get an enchilada dinner, with beans and rice. There are NO enchiladas on the menu. The menu basically consisted or burritos, tacos and quesadillas. Those were my options. I don't even think they had beans and rice...

So I order the veggie quesadilla, how bad can that be right? How the hell do you fuck up a quesadilla? You f*** it up by not putting the cheese on the INSIDE of the quesdailla. These dumbasses put the veggies in between two of the worst tasting tortillas know to man and melted some cheddar cheese on top of the "quesadilla." They didn't even bother to cut the thing up for me, or give me a means of doing so. Oh and this whole time, there are these two ladies sitting next to us raving about how great this place was...

Something else I took note of was that Dos XX was the same price as Tecate and Negra Modelo...I guess by the time the imports get up there it's all the same to them...idk

Well, that's all I really have time for tonight. Are things this bad in Colorado Lauren?

Sup

So a little while ago, Charlie and I tried to post a comment on this blog thing. It didn't work. We can't figure it out. We tried pressing many buttons, which were all futile efforts ending in frustration. We have now resorted to posting a post about our failed comment. If the comment had worked this it what it would have said:

Sam, I am disappointed in your lack of Harry Potter knowledge. -Lauren

Saturday fun

Saturday Dad and I went to the Broadway production of RAIN with Rod and Mary.  RAIN is a tribute to the Beatles, it is set kinda like a series of concerts with the songs coming out in release order (I think).  The actors/musicians were incredible, looking and sounding just like the Beatles.  They have been together and doing this for about 15 years.  I really enjoyed it.

Then afterward we walked down to the Via Calori chalk street art.  It was just a short walk from the theater.  Most of the art was about 1/2 done, and the artists were diligently at work creating their masterpieces.  They havent posted pictures of this year's work.  It was threatening rain, so maybe it all washed away like in Mary Poppins.
Here is the lik that has pictures from last year.

A small 'Occupy Houston' contingent was camped out in the partkjust across from the theater.  One guy was ranting at all the theater goers.  His main beef seemed to be the Hobby theater's refusal to let them use the bathrooms.  All of the bathrooms are located in the intererior which is reached after you present your ticket.  So I am sure the theater would have been happy to sell them a ticket to the show so they could reach the bathroom.

What's going on at Myrtlewood

Since several of you are coming home for the Thanksgiving holidays (except Sam & Heather - we will MISS YOU!!), thought I'd let you know what's going on at the homestead.  Might be boring, but when I was in DC, I always wanted to know what was going on at home, so this is a good way to let everyone know.

The leaves are starting to fall, which means every day the pool gets full and have to sweep off the back porch.  We did get an inch of rain last week, which was nice.  Hearing we may get some more rain in the next few days.  The pond in front is still bone dry - it dried up in July and hasn't had water in it for more than a day or two since then.  We'll know the drought is over when it becomes full again.

The citrus trees are in full production phase now.  The crop wasn't as big as it could have been - due to the drought - but there's still more than I can handle by myself.  The satsuma's are ready to eat!  I need all the help I can get eating them, since they don't last too long on the tree (some varieties will last for months on the tree, so I have more time to harvest those).  The kumquats are turning orange and by Christmas they'll look like a southern version of a Christmas tree (actually, that's what they used in Louisiana before firs were transported from the north).

I sowed some winter rye in the back and it's starting to come up, so Topper's field is starting to look green for the first time since last spring.  The donkey's are getting FAT!  I expect they'll be dropping babies any day now.   The chickens are all doing well - laying about 10 eggs a day (also impossible to keep up with!).  Once I plugged the hole that a skunk made in the wall (when it got the colored silkie), I haven't had any more problems.

Since I'm off work this week, I am putting up Christmas decorations.  But...I"m not the first in the neighborhood!  Somebody down the street got theirs up last week!  The inside decorations are up already...maybe in the next day or two I'll get the outside  ones up.  99.1 FM is already playing Xmas music.

Mom is filling up the icebox with all kinds of goodies, so I'm anticipating alot of good food will be cooked over the next few days.  Come home hungry!!!  Love, Dad

Let Players Play

Hey y'all!

Just finished my first week of work in the real world. It was horribly boring haha. They want to start me out on the easier cases and they just didn't have anything for me so I basically did nothing all week.Other than that I do really like it there. Everyone I work with is my age (I am the youngest, but just barely) and they always invite me to lunch and even out to a bar one night! Hopefully I will start makin' some friends soon.

My roommates are also pretty cool (though they are super nerdy, I was surprised that one of them has had 2 different girls stay over this week, wtf?!)... I went out with Glenn and some of his friends last night to trivia. The only question I was able to answer I got wrong =( Lauren, you will be dissapointed to know it was a harry potter question...

I wish I could come down for the holidays, but luckily I won't be spending my favorite holiday alone! Two of my friends from A&M are nuclear reactor operators in Vermont and they're only an hour away from me so they're coming here for thanksgiving =D My mom is also coming up for Christmas and my little sister for New Years, so I won't be alone then either.

I thought the story about Lauren and Nicole getting into that car was freakin' HILARIOUS, I read it at work and was laughing out loud. I don't know why, but I picture them doing that in their suits, which makes it funnier in my mind hehe.

Well, I hope to hear more from y'all (especially Heather and Eric, I never know what's goin' on with y'all!)

Allergic Reaction

I was on call Thursday night and watched 2 babies be delivered!  Though didn't get to catch either one...
But the real fun happened after I got off call, and then went to Thanksgiving lunch at THI instead of sleeping.  Then slept 4 hours and went to Aaron and Danielle's house to drink and party with Jack, John and the rest.  If every hour without sleep is like a beer, I had at least 20 beers that night.  I think by the time I fell asleep I was hallucinating.  The next morning my body thanked me for the abuse by doing this:

WHY MUST I BE A WARE-ASIAN!?!?

Thanksgiving Dinner

Well.....
I've been trying to think of the Thanksgiving day menu, and I thought we might try something a little different for this year.  How about this for a Thanksgiving menu:
Chili - cheese hot dogs with onions and relish (veggie dogs for the vegetarians)
Chips - both corn chips AND ruffle chips
2 kinds of dip - ranch dip and bean dip
And chocolate mint ice cream for dessert.

How does that sound!?!

Carjacking

Some excitement today.  Went to pick up Lauren tonight after her swim practice.  She went out a different door and spotted a white car with lights on that she thought was mine.  She and Stevie walked up to the car and started trying to get in from either side, pulling on the latches and yelling to unlock the doors.  Whoever was parked in the car started freaking out that strangers were trying to break in their car and took off in a fright.  Oh, and this happened while Lauren's coach was watching them.
Lauren had her interview today with Suncor for a summer internship.  Sounds like it went well, but there's a limited number of positions, so we won't know for another week if she got it or not.  We'll keep our fingers crossed for her!  Dad

Old dogs learning new tricks

I've never posted a blog before (much less visited one).  So we'll give it a whirl! I'm in Denver this week - we're having a design review of the spacecraft.  Visited Lauren and took her grocery shopping.  She was out of food and had been eating rice & BBQ sauce.  Too busy with school & swimming to get food!  Tonight I cooked her dinner - okra from home and falafal/pita.  Gotta put some weight on her because its so blasted cold up here!
